When garbage breaks down in the landfill, it produces a mixture of gases, primarily methane and carbon dioxide. This Landfill gas (LFG) must be captured and burned off through a flare system, or used for energy. Currently, the Daviess County Landfill is producing approximately 600 cubic feet per minute of LFG.
