After the success of Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney wanted to try something new and created the Silly Symphonies. The first in the series, The Skeleton Dance, was released in August 1929. Much of the animation was done by Ub Iwerks. After leaving Disney to start his own studio, Ub directed a short in 1937 called Skeleton Frolic, which borrowed heavily from The Skeleton Dance. | Disney History Channel
