When excess fertilizers wash into rivers, streams, and eventually the ocean, they bring a surge of nutrients,especially nitrogen and phosphorus. These nutrients fuel massive algae blooms. When that algae dies and decomposes, it sucks oxygen out of the water, creating low-oxygen “dead zones” where fish and marine life can’t survive. Less oxygen means fewer salmon. Fewer salmon means less food for Southern Reside
