Today we remember the story of Lake Lanier and Oscarville, Georgia — a powerful and sobering reminder that Black history includes both achievement and injustice. In the early 1900s, Oscarville was a thriving Black community in Forsyth County, Georgia — home to families, churches, landowners, and businesses. But in 1912, following racial violence and terror, Black residents were forced from their homes, their land taken, and the community was erased. Years later, in the 1950s, the land where Osca
