Human beavers have been hard at work restoring Ohio’s ecosystems! 🦫 Throughout summer 2021, Nature Conservancy staff in Ohio partnered with Cleveland Metroparks and American Conservation Experience to construct 186 log jams in headwater streams in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Using hand tools, inspiration from nature, and a bit of sweat equity, more than a mile of stream habitat has been restored, helping to reduce erosion and sedimentation of these sensitive ecosystems. So what are log jams

In fact, the removal of beavers from their natural setting leads to a decrease in habitat quality. As a result, fewer wildlife species are able to utilize the area 2. Beaver dams and pools reduce soil erosion and retain sediment, which absorb and filter pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and fertilizers. 3. Xinjiang in Focus | Beaver Family In China’s remote northwestern frontier, along the Ulungur River in the Altay region, Xinjiang, lives a group of endearing “hydraulic engineers” — the Sino-Mongolian beavers. However, due to habitat loss, they are now on the brink of extinction. In

Eventually, if the beaver doesn’t eat them fast enough or dies the willow grows from those stored sticks - creating more food resources and allowing more or new beavers to move in. - Process-based restoration (PBR) is an ecological restoration approach that focuses on restoring the natural physical, chemical, and biological proces

Beavers are highly social animals. When beavers are alone they get depressed and sometimes stop eating. Beavers need their bois. - Process-based restoration (PBR) is an ecological restoration approach that focuses on restoring the natural physical, chemical, and biological processes that sustain ecosystems, rather than just trying to rebuild or replant specific features (like trees, channels, or species) directly. #beaver #restoration #conservation #outdoors #beavercore
