After 140 years, Angelica Kauffman’s ‘Penelope and Euriclea’ has returned to Stourhead after it was sold at auction. The lost treasure resurfaced at an auction in New York earlier this year, so after a race against the clock and the generous support of the National Trust fund, set up by the late Simon Sainsbury and a member of the Hoare family, the National Trust were able to secure the painting. ‘Penelope and Euriclea’ will be on display in the Picture Gallery at Stourhead from 2 October to 2 N
