Our Water Protection program prohibits discharging harmful substances into the environment to protect our streams, lakes, and rivers. The program also protects the wastewater treatment plant’s operation from harmful wastes and chemicals that should not go down drains.

For clean water, the program regulates pollutants entering the state’s waters by issuing permits for the construction and operation of wastewater treatment facilities and stormwater discharges. Permits set wastewater treatment levels necessary to protect water quality.

The water protection division, of the public works & transportation department, works to protect public health and the environment by providing around-the-clock operation and maintenance of the city's wastewater treatment system.
