The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is monitoring closely the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island due to its continuous and elevated sulfur dioxide emission.

The Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island on Wednesday emitted ash, resulting in plumes as high as 500 meters above the crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Kanlaon emitted 6,432 tons of sulfur dioxide flux, based on monitoring records. The continuous degassing sent a 500-meter tall plume with occasional ash emission that drifted to the west and southwest side of the volcano.
