On Wednesday, Meta’s Oversight Board called on the company to evaluate how recent policy change’s may negatively impact human rights. The Board’s request comes alongside its publication of its first 11 case decisions following Meta’s sweeping policy changes at the start of the year.

Meta updated its hateful conduct policy in January, which alarmed some LGBTQ activists, as the updated policy specified users can refer to LGBTQ people as mentally ill, among other controversial changes.

The fine pertains to March 2024, when DMA rules were enacted, through November 2024, when Meta launched a non-compliant ad model.
