House Democrats will hold a "Day of Action" across the country on Tuesday to push back against the GOP-backed spending bill to avert a government shutdown.

The bill puts significant pressure on Democrats in the Senate, whose votes will be needed in order to avoid a shutdown. The federal government runs out of money at the end of the day on Friday.

Democrats were stuck between two choices they despised: Vote for a funding bill that reflects Republican spending priorities and will give Trump and his allies more leeway to dismantle the federal government, or shut the government down by denying their vote and risk facing political backlash and blame.
