Nearly two months after the hasty and controversial birth of “Alligator Alcatraz,” a federal judge has slammed the brakes on the operation, ruling that no more detainees can be housed at the remote migrant detention camp deep in the marshy wetlands of the Everglades.

A judge ruled that the state and federal governments acted illegally by not conducting an environmental review before building the center in the Florida Everglades.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams on Thursday ordered the DeSantis administration to shutter the controversial detention center in the Florida Everglades known as Alligator Alcatraz within 60 days, ruling in a lawsuit brought on by environmental groups against the state and federal government.
