The United Nations World Food Programme, which relies on the U.S. for nearly half its budget, is closing its Southern Africa bureau due to funding constraints, the agency said on Monday as the region struggles to withstand a severe drought.

The fallout from the heated exchange sparked criticism from Ukraine-backing lawmakers as well as praise from Republican supporters of the U.S. president.

The argument on Friday between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky was closely monitored in Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that someone should "force" the President of Ukraine to make peace.

"It's a disgrace for America and Trump," says Borys Bondariew, a former employee of Russia's Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, in an interview with o2.pl. In his opinion, Trump lives in a "great illusion" believing the USA does not need allies.
