The National Women’s Soccer League said Friday that a game between Angel City and the Utah Royals should not have continued after defender Savy King collapsed on the field and had to be hospitalized.

After receiving criticism for finishing a match last week despite Angel City FC defender Savy King collapsing on the field, the NWSL announced Friday that it has changed its protocols for similar situations in the future.

The NWSL said Friday that play should not have resumed after Savy King collapsed during a recent matchup between Angel City and the Utah Royals and that future matches featuring similar circumstances will be abandoned.
