Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took holy dips in sacred river waters in the northern city of Prayagraj on Wednesday as he joined millions of people at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a week after dozens died in a stampede at the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela, taking a sacred dip at the Sangam and inaugurating infrastructure projects worth INR 5,500 crore. The event saw participation from international leaders and celebrities and had a massive turnout of over 12.

Modi took a ritual bath on a visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela, a week after a deadly crush at the world's largest gathering.

Prime Minister Modi's Kumbh visit comes seven days after a stampede broke out at the fairground. At least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured in a stampede that broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 29.
