Rory McIlroy has announced he will play significantly less golf this year - with the majority of the cuts set to be made on the PGA Tour in a blow for the organisation

Rory McIlroy will make his first PGA Tour appearance of the season this week at Pebble Beach and ahead of the event has called on the PGA Tour to scale back its schedule

Rory McIlroy said Tuesday he understands how the golf consumer might be fatigued with all the different forms of the game that now exist and even suggested lessening the number of events on the PGA Tour could help.

Rory McIlroy makes his 2025 PGA Tour debut this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This comes on the heels of his TGL debut and also his season opener on the DP World Tour, which took place a couple weeks ago.

Rory McIlroy believes that golf fans could become "fatigued" by the wealth of options available to them and suggests there are "definitely too many" events on the current PGA Tour schedule.

Rory McIlroy said there’s space for different golf products but expressed concern for the game becoming overexposed.

Rory McIlroy is cutting back on the number of PGA Tour events in which he’ll compete this year. He wouldn’t mind seeing the tour make more cuts of its own, including the number of tournaments it conducts.
