Portsmouth, has set a Jan. 6 special election to fill the soon-to-be vacant seat of Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, D-Richmond, clearing the way for a fast, intraparty fight in one of the state’s safest Democratic districts.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia’s State Board of Elections has certified the results of the 2025 General Election. On Monday, Dec. 1, the Virginia Department of Elections announced on social media that the votes for the November General Election were certified.

Virginia Tech saw the largest swing, moving 34 points leftward. Radford and Hampton were 23 point shifts. George Mason swung by 17.

Virginia Sen. Mark Warner announced his 2026 re-election campaign in a video posted to social media on Dec. 2.

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A special election to replace Lt. Gov.-elect Ghazala Hashmi has been set for Jan. 6, 2026. Virginia Senate’s President Pro tempore, Sen. L. Louise Lucas (D-Va.), announced the special election to fill Hashmi’s seat on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Tennessee’s Seventh District was created to be safely Republican, but in recent special elections across the country Democrats have done significantly better than they did in 2024.
