The Madre Fire in central California expanded to nearly 53,000 in one day, making it the largest wildfire this year in California.

The Madre wildfire began Wednesday in San Luis Obispo County, burning 52,952 acres. Only 5% of the blaze has been contained so far, Governor Gavin Newsom said
