Organizers said some 2,600 protests were planned in the U.S. on Saturday. The protests were largely peaceful, as demonstrators united in their stated aim to safeguard the country's democratic values.

Millions of Americans joined anti-Trump protests, but Democrats are less popular than the president and divided over how to fight back.

Protests took place in Sacramento, the state's capital, and in several Bay Area cities. Organizers estimate thousands of people gathered for the demonstrations.

The Surfside Beach woman brandished a firearm during the demonstration, and was taken into custody, Myrtle Beach Police said.
