Starship, the world's largest rocket, is about to get even bigger. On May 19, Elon Musk's SpaceX is due to launch the largest rocket its ever built.
Starship V3 is a next-generation launch vehicle developed with crewed exploration of the moon and Mars in mind. Its first-stage booster, "Super Heavy," is equipped with 33 Raptor engines and has been upgraded to reduce weight while increasing thrust. New features include on-orbit docking, propellant transfer, and improved maneuverability.
By some estimates, SpaceX has now invested $15 billion in the Starship rocket program over the last decade, funding 11 test flights, a sprawling spaceport in South Texas, a massive new factory there to support a high production rate, and expanding facilities in Florida alongside the company’s existing infrastructure in the state.
