The East Bay Area has been rattled by a cluster earthquakes in recent weeks. According to KQED, more than 150 earthquakes jolted the area near San Ramon last month alone. On Dec. 8, a total of 10 earthquakes hit the area with preliminary magnitudes of 2.5 or above, KQED reports.
Four earthquakes, measuring up to nearly three on the Richter scale, were recorded within two hours of each other near Concrete on Monday morning.
Earthquakes of magnitude 4.0-4.9 are considered “light.” Such quakes off the Oregon coast are common. At least five, spanning in magnitude from 3.0 to 4.5, have occurred near that fracture zone since Nov. 29, according to this real time earthquake map from The Oregonian/OregonLive.
A swarm of earthquakes rattled the Bay Area on the evening of Friday, December 19. The earthquakes occurred over a 30-minute span, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There have been no reports of damage or casualties, and no tsunami warnings have been issued as of reporting.
Two earthquakes struck this week north and south of the Victor Valley. At 2:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake occurred 13 miles east of Little Lake, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The area is near the Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake in Kern County.
