Alphabet Inc. pays Samsung Electronics Co. an “enormous sum of money” every month to preinstall Google generative AI app, Gemini, on its phones and devices, according to court testimony, even though the company’s practice of paying for installations has twice been found to violate the law.

Gemini’s place as a preinstalled, default AI assistant on the Galaxy S25 came with a check attached.

Google is reportedly paying Samsung an “enormous” amount of money to pre-install Gemini on its devices. A Google employee testified that Google is paying Samsung a monthly fee to load Gemini on devices. This news comes after a US judge found Google guilty of monopolistic behavior by paying companies to pre-install its search engine.
