It was no good, but Rutgers had called timeout just before the kick was launched. Instead of kicking again, Illinois sent its offense back out and quarterback Luke Altmyer hit Patrick Bryant in the middle of the field,

Pat Bryant scored a miraculous 40-yard touchdown in the final seconds to push the Illini past the Scarlet Knights. In an offensive shootout, Illinois found itself down by one with just over a minute to go.

Illinois lined up for a 58-yard field goal with 14 seconds to play in Piscataway, a last-gasp attempt to steal a victory. Rutgers had just retaken the lead with a minute to play, and now the hosts were one play away from ending the Illini’s own attempt at a game-winning drive.
