People can already buy cars on Amazon.com: “Amazon Autos” partners with dealers to list inventory for sale. It appears similar to search tools on Autotrader.com or Cars.com. Hertz, however, is Amazon’s first fleet customer, according to Hertz’s news release.

Amazon began selling new cars late last year through an arrangement with Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., but consumers still must use a Hyundai dealer to complete the sale. Amazon is also recruiting car dealers to list their used vehicles, including those designated as certified preowned, on Amazon Autos.

Hertz announced it has joined Amazon Autos to start selling pre-owned vehicles to boost the company's profits.
