David Johansen, the wiry, gravelly-voiced singer and last surviving member of the glam and protopunk band the New York Dolls, has died.

A master of many musical genres, he also recorded as Buster Poindexter and appeared as an actor in ‘Scrooged,’ ‘Let It Ride’ and ‘Oz.’
