TORONTO (AP) — The Liberal Party has won the federal election in Canada, culminating a process marked by U.S. President Donald Trump threats on a trade war and of making the country the 51st American state.

New Prime Minster Mark Carney's Liberal Party will retain its hold on power in Canada's national election, Canadian media projected.

The result capped a notable comeback for the Liberals, who had been 20 points behind in the polls in January before Trudeau announced he was quitting and Trump started threatening tariffs and annexation.
