TRUCKEE, Cali. — A skier has been found dead after reportedly going missing in the Sierra Nevada late Wednesday night. The Placer County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a report of a missing man in Truckee, California, around 11 p.m.

Authorities say six backcountry skiers are alive and 10 others are missing after an avalanche in Northern California that occurred during a powerful winter storm moving through the state.

Forecasters expect the storm to remain intense in the near future.
