The eighth victim in the fatal fire that ripped through the Gabriel House assisted living facility in Fall River on Sunday has been identified. Joseph Wilansky, 77, was identified by Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III on Wednesday.
The Gabriel House in Fall River, Mass., had not been inspected by the state in nearly two years prior to the fatal blaze on Sunday, July 13, according to CBS affiliate WBZ-TV and WPRI-TV, citing records from the Executive Office of Aging and Independence.
A Massachusetts assisted-living center where nine residents died in a fire was cited for failing to immediately report more than two dozen health and safety incidents.
The scene outside Gabriel House, the assisted living facility that saw a deadly fire over the weekend, was solemn Wednesday, as mourners placed flowers and lit candles, some praying, others standing silently, some imagining the scene over the weekend that left nine residents dead.
There’s no doubt in my mind that that fire was destined to kill 50-plus people,” Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon said Wednesday.
