An Israeli-Moldovan rabbi living in the United Arab Emirates has gone missing, with Israeli authorities raising the suspicion he may have been kidnapped as tensions remain high with Iran.

A missing Jewish community leader was found dead in the United Arab Emirates, Israel said on Sunday. Israeli-Moldovan citizen Zvi Kogan went missing from Dubai on Thursday afternoon, prompting an investigation by Israel’s Mossad spy agency after suspicions were raised that he was abducted in an act of terrorism.

Zvi Kogan is one of five Chabad rabbis to move to the UAE since Israel normalized relations in 2020. Israeli authorities announced early Sunday that the body of a rabbi who disappeared Thursday in the United Arab Emirates had been found.
